Getting Started with the Content Cloud
Initial Setup on the Content Cloud
There are three main steps to setting up your players on the Content Cloud for the first time, preparing your players, creating a setup file, and applying that setup file to your players (also known as provisioning):
Prepare your Players
Set up your BSN.cloud Content Cloud account.
Connect your players to a live internet connection through Ethernet.
Connect your player to the display screen through HDMI®.
Power on your players with a blank micro-SD card.
Select Activate Player on your BrightAuthor:connected dashboard and enter the Activation Code from the purple screen of your connected display (note that there are several methods to activate your player).
Your player will now go through setup and reboot several times. When the process is finished, you will see a purple welcome screen.
Create a Setup File
Go to the Admin tab in BrightAuthor:connected and select Setup.
In Player Settings, fill out Setup Name, Player Name, and Player Description.
Set the Idle Screen Color to something other than black, so that you can see if the player is outputting a video signal.
Select BSN.cloud as the Publishing Mode. This type is only available in Content Cloud. Group lets players play different content and/or schedules based on groups that you create and assign. You can assign your player to a content group, or switch players between content groups after setup by selecting Default.
Choose Add Setup to Library. This will take you to Player Setups. The setup type for your player should be BSN.cloud.
Provision the Players
Go to the Admin tab in BrightAuthor:connected and select Provision. Use the checkbox to select the player from the list.
Select Apply Setup and select the setup file that you saved to your library.
Apply Setup to the player(s) you want to update.
Updating your Content Cloud Players
Players that are connected to the Content Cloud must be set up to receive content updates through BSN.cloud. If your player is already set up with another publishing method, you will have to change how it receives content updates. To do this:
Prepare your Player and Create your Account
To connect an existing BrightSign player to BSN.cloud for the first time, reset your player to Factory Default.
Format a blank micro-SD card to FAT32 or ExFAT and insert it into your player.
Activate your free Content Cloud trial (through the BrightAuthor:connected Admin tab).
Create a Setup File
In BrightAuthor:connected, select Setup under the Admin tab.
If you have not already done so, select Player Settings and fill out Setup Name, Player Name, and Player Description. Set the Idle Screen Color to something other than black, so that you can see if the player is outputting a video signal.
Select BSN.cloud Networking as the Publishing Mode.
Choose Add Setup to Library.
Provision The Player
Go to the Admin tab in BrightAuthor:connected and select Provision. Use the checkbox to select the player from the list.
Select Apply Setup and select the setup file that you saved to your library.
Apply Setup to the player (see Image 2).
Go to the Network tab and select the cog icon next to the player you want to provision. This will take you to the remote Diagnostic Web Server.
From the Control tab, go to Reprovision Player, and select Update. The player will reboot several times in the process.
When reprovisioning is complete, a green check mark will appear next to the player and the Setup Type in the Properties pane will be BSN.cloud Networking. You will see the welcome screen when the player boots.
BrightSign Publishing Options
Note that BrightSign players support several methods for publishing content to players, including:
Standalone: Publish setup files directly to a Micro SD card and then insert that card in your player. The player will run on that SD card.
Activation code: Enter the activation code displayed on the screen of your connected display in the BrightAuthor:connected Admin section to activate the player.
Manual setup: An IP address will appear on the purple screen of a connected display (opposite the QR code). Enter that address in your browser to configure the player through the web browser.
Player Provisioning (default setup): Our Provision service lets you automatically provision BrightSign players over the internet.
Player Provisioning (custom setup): Our BrightSign partners can use our BSN.cloud APIs to create custom setups and provision players.
