This page outlines differences in functionality and features between Series 3 (XTx43, XDx33, HDx23, LS423) and Series 4 (XTx44, XDx34, HDx24, LS424) models.

HDR10, Dolby Vision

XTx43 players support HDR, while XTx44 players support both HDR and Dolby Vision.

WMV Codec

Series 3 (XTx43/XDx33/HDx23/LS423) players support video-only .wmv (i.e. without .wma audio), while Series 4 (XTx44/XDx34/HDx24/LS424) players do not support the .wmv codec at all.

Video Decoder

Series 4 (XTx44/XDx34/HDx24/LS424) players can only use one decoder when streaming videos.

Portrait Video

While XDx33 players can play two HD portrait videos simultaneously, XDx34 players can play only one HD portrait video at a time.

Both XTx43 and XTx44 players can play two simultaneous portrait HD videos.

Note
titleNote

Selecting a portrait mode in BrightAuthor will set all video zones in that presentation to portrait, while a custom BrightScript/HTML presentation can set video zones to portrait/landscape individually. This means that a BrightAuthor portrait presentation for XDx34 players is effectively a single-video presentation, while a custom BrightScript/HTML presentation for XDx34 players can have both a portrait and landscape HD video zone.

3.5mm Serial

HDx23 players (and XTx43/XDx33 players that are rev G or earlier) do not support full RS-232 signaling. XTx44/XTx34/HDx24 players (and XTx43/XDx33 players that are rev H or later) support full RS-232 signaling. See here for more details.

SSD

XTx43/XDx33 players support the ATAPI logical interface for SSD, while the XTx44/XDx34 players support the NVMe interface. See here for more details.

Persistent Clock

All Series 3 and 4 players have a real-time clock (RTC); however, the LS424 does not have a supercapacitor to keep the clock running when there is no other power source. If you power cycle an LS424, the player will lose its configured time settings, and (unless the player can reach a local/remote timeserver) it will not be able to play day-parted presentations at scheduled times or communicate with SSL servers (including the BrightSign Network).

Player Security

XTx44/XDx34 players don't accept "{A|A}" AES encryption keys (i.e. where the top and bottom 64 bits of the key are identical).
